Why everyone keeps coming back.

The Mexican House - Latin Market in Barrie, ON, is a vibrant and authentic destination celebrating the rich flavors of Mexican cuisine alongside an extensive Mexican grocery selection. This unique fusion of a Mexican restaurant and grocery store offers both locals and visitors a genuine taste experience that transports you directly to the heart of Mexico.

Step inside, and you’ll immediately notice the cozy, no-frills atmosphere reminiscent of an intimate family-run eatery combined with a bustling Latin market vibe. Customers often describe the setting as warm and welcoming, with friendly staff who make you feel right at home — a true reflection of the vibrant Mexican culture.

The Mexican House’s culinary offerings truly shine with authentic dishes that showcase traditional Mexican cooking at its finest. Their menu is a treasure trove for lovers of bold, satisfying flavors. Start with their famed Aztec Soup, a beautifully balanced tomato base garnished with fresh avocado, crispy tortilla strips, tangy sour cream, and melting cheese—a comforting, sensory delight that hints at the flavors to come.

For something hearty, dive into their Pozole, a soul-warming soup made from pork and hominy simmered in a mildly spicy blend of guajillo and ancho chiles. It’s perfectly garnished with fresh lettuce, diced onions, cilantro, and a zesty squeeze of lime that enlivens every spoonful.

Not to be missed are the delightful sweet offerings— their handmade Mexican churros are a fan favorite, praised for their crisp exterior and soft, airy interior, dusted generously with cinnamon sugar. The Colombian churros with dulce de leche add a sweet, creamy richness that complements the traditional variations beautifully. Other treats like Conchas, freshly baked sweet bread, and the Flan Napolitano, a luscious, silky egg custard dessert, provide the perfect finish to your dining experience.

The Mexican House is especially beloved for its tacos—generous portions loaded with fresh, expertly seasoned fillings like succulent pulled pork, perfectly spiced lamb Barbacoa, and chicken chimichangas bursting with flavor. The authenticity here stands out, with every bite bringing bold, vibrant tastes and satisfying textures that remind one of genuine Mexican street food.

Reviewers frequently highlight the freshness and quality of the ingredients, along with portion sizes that keep you completely satisfied without overwhelming you. Whether you're grabbing shrimp tacos for a quick feast or indulging in a hearty bowl of Menudo, the flavors linger memorably and leave an impression of culinary care and tradition.

Moreover, The Mexican House’s grocery section is more than just an add-on; it enhances the authenticity of the dining experience. Customers appreciate browsing through shelves stocked with Latin American staples, allowing them to bring a bit of Mexican culture home or discover new ingredients to experiment with in their own kitchens.

Both locals and visitors commend the blend of excellent food, welcoming ambiance, and the convenience of a Latin market right off the highway. It’s the kind of place that invites you to stay awhile, explore, taste, and discover. As one happy guest put it, it’s “easily my new favorite spot,” and many echo the sentiment, making The Mexican House a must-visit culinary gem in Barrie.

For anyone craving authentic Mexican flavors paired with the charm of a Latin market, The Mexican House is a flavorful journey not to be missed.

Great Experience at The Mexican House I recently visited and had a fantastic time! The place has a cozy and welcoming vibe, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. They made us feel right at home. The menu had so many delicious options. I started with the Tostada ceviche, which was really fresh and tasty. For my main course, I went with the tamales, and it was absolutely delicious – perfectly cooked with great flavors. My friend had the quesabirrias and torta de pastor and loved it too. We couldn’t resist trying the churros for dessert, and it was the perfect way to finish our meal. It looked amazing and tasted even better. Overall, The Mexican house really impressed me. The food was awesome, the service was great, and the atmosphere was just right. I totally recommend checking it out if you’re looking for a nice place to eat.

I love a hole in the wall. After googling “Mexican Food” my friends and I were led to the Mexican house. It doesn’t disappoint. The guacamole and chips were fresh. The chicken in my chimichangas was season perfectly. Birria Tacos were fantastic. It may be a Latin Grocer but that’s honestly what made it feel more authentic. Friendly server and went home with some goodies out of the cooler! We will be back.

Food was amazing! Loved the chilaquiles. Seemed so much more authentic and tasty than probably 3 different Mexican restaurants I've been to in Toronto that served chilaquiles. Nice portion size too. I gave it 3 stars for atmosphere because it feels more like you're sitting in a small food store that has a table, rather than a restaurant. It's fine. The food was great and there was a friendly server and that's what counts. But, maybe important for some people.

My goodness this is my new fav hole in the wall type restaurant, they offer takeout and dine in! They also have a small retail selection both dry goods and frozen plus drinks. The atmosphere is so cute and old school, the lady that served us was quiet but wonderful. After a quick google search this specific place kept popping up because of their tamales (which is all I wanted) but I ended up buying more. I will definitely be back again! And most try for sure

The Mexican House – Latin Market offers an authentic Latin dining experience in a cozy setting. Parking is plentiful, and the service is friendly and attentive, making for a pleasant visit. The menu features flavorful dishes that showcase traditional Latin tastes. However, vegetarian options are quite limited, so if you’re looking for a wide variety of plant-based choices, keep that in mind. That said, the quality of the food is excellent, and everything served feels fresh and well-prepared. Prices are reasonable, and the overall atmosphere is relaxed—not overly crowded, with enough tables for a comfortable meal. My only suggestion would be to expand the vegetarian offerings to cater to a broader audience. If you’re craving authentic Latin flavors and appreciate good service in a convenient location, The Mexican House – Latin Market is worth a visit.
